To Feast on Memory Sublime

Dear Memory,

To my mind’s eye, send a picture of joy; magic for my heart once more. Lovely girl when you and I, one summer’s evening long ago, stood on the bridge of happiness, we were promised to all things bright. To gather in trust with the time of day we watched sunbeams rest on the stony river bed, while young trout jumped to catch the evening fly. And I much too shy to look you in the eye, and, too immature to wish to know your soul. Moments given to peace in our embrace with rapture, when young rabbits played on the headlands of the harvest field. While the call of the corncrake, cuckoo, and restless water hen amongst the reeds along the river bank filled the silence while the evening blue in the summer sky turned to purple that clad the travelling moon to journey through the night. We left our reflections with the ripples on the waters of love. Daughter of serenity, we parted at your mother’s door. Girl, we met and parted well.
